what is a 'rape horn'?

I was watching a movie (dorm daze 2) and there's supposed to be an abstinence group, and these two girls pull out a 'thing' and say they're carrying a rape horn. What does this mean? And what is this 'rape horn' used for?

Air horn.

In the eighties, women's groups advised against yelling 'rape' or 'help' when facing an attacker, because people might not come to help-- or, someone might come, and in a mob frenzy, assist the attacker. Women were told to yell "Fire" instead.

Those Air horn cans get attention fast without relating the reason for the alarm. They create a loud enough disturbance to panic their attacker, who needs a victim's silence to perform, and to draw attention to the crime.
