Your dorm room will also be your study area where you will be doing research and preparing for test. You will need a good sturdy table for your computer and place it in an area of the room that feels relaxing and comfortable. Buy a lamp that provides adequate lighting for studying as this is very important and gives you another opportunity to buy something that expresses your personality.
The next biggest decision of your dorm room decorating will be what to do with the walls. You don't want to do anything that is going to create a problem and that you will have to pay for later, so the first thing that you need to do is check the dorm rules to learn what you can and cannot do. Posters are the number one way to decorate your walls and they are inexpensive and easy to find. You can buy poster adhesive that will not chip paint or put holes in the walls, but still securely hold your posters up. You can also buy special hooks that will not damage the walls as well.
Buy frames to go around your posters to make them more attractive and unique. You can find these in a number of distinctive designs or be creative and make your own. Memo boards are a great way to display pictures of family, friends and anything else that catches your attention.
One thing that is well-known is the fact that dorm rooms are very short on storage space. That is why dorm room decorating includes finding decorative ways to add storage to your room. You can do this by purchasing plastic or wire storage bins that take up little space but that provide a lot of room. You can buy bed risers that will lift your bed higher to make more room for storage under your bed. Closet organizers can give you more room and look great as well.
