There are many places that you can store items such as
Under the Bed - use luggage or the duffel bag that you brought with you to store your clothing that you aren't wearing. Another good thing to use is the case that your comforter came in, its soft plastic that can be stuffed, sealed and slid under the bed.
Use the Ends of the bed for storage - Use this area to have the fold up tables, and shoe storage. If you get little shelves for the shoes, you can double the space for shoes.
In the closet - The closets are never big enough for everything that you own. Adding a second closet rack will help you. You can use an adjustable closet rack or in a pinch you can get an adjustable shower rack to hold light weight items.
Clothing Basket- buy collapsible mesh dirty clothes hamper. These can be found in stores and are very versatile and useful. These can hold the dirty clothes, and then you can haul it to the laundry mat. They will collapse down and store under the bed.
Small wooden folding tables - Get a set of these and you will find many uses for them. They fold up to lie flat, yet opened you can have a table for eating on, or a laptop. I use one to put my books on, then the other will hold my laptop and it's an easy setup that makes being productive easy. Many times you can find these in a set of three that will have it's own holding stand.
Little plastic baskets that will hold odds and ends. These work great in the bathroom where you may be sharing with others, you can keep all your things neatly in one basket.
Things that are too bulky to really fit well in your dorm room would include plastic tubs with lids. While they will hold a lot of items finding places for them is harder to do. You are better off with small, flexible storage items.
You can store quite a bit of things in a small space if you get creative and have store things correctly to give you the most space in a little space.
