Opting For On Campus Dorm Life

College Life

Many colleges and universities require college freshmen to live on campus in a dorm. Even if your college of choice does not require dorm living, you would probably find dorm life a very beneficial choice. Dorms provide an inherent social life for those who are away on one’s own for the first time. It is easy to make new friends amongst this bunch of similarly experienced new students in the college dorms. You will be able to easily find dining companions, athletic mates, and study partners. You will be invited to many parties and and impromptu get-togethers. College life can be loads of fun, and you don’t want to miss out on this social experience by living off campus.

Don’t be frightened of the unknowns of your freshman dormitory roommate. You are both arriving from and heading towards similar situations. In the beginning, you may want to set up some ground rules of behavior. These rules could be as simple as who gets to the shower first, when bright lights go off, and when quiet study and sleep time must take place. If you need some space, the campus will have many places to hang out, from the beautifully manicured grounds, to student social halls, gym facilities, and of course the library.

If for some reason you don’t get along with your roommate as well as you would have liked, you can create privacy with creative dorm room decor. You could hang  a room darking and sound absorbing curtain, or set up a cork room dividing screen between your respective spaces. You could string up cheery Christmas lights in your favorite color to observe, focus, and daydream with. You can get sound concealing headphones so you can study in peace, or to your favorite tunes. Regardless of your dorm roommate computability issues, you will find that your on campus experience will yield positive memories that will last a lifetime.
